This past Sunday was a big event for Houston Roller Derby. We hosted the Governor's Cup at Verizon, and five Texas leagues competed for the cup. Unfortunately, our girls didn't win the coveted armadillo trophy, but they kicked ass anyway. I was so proud of our girls - they skated mean and hard, and I hope I'm as good a skater as them someday. And if you didn't make it out to the bouts, then SHAME ON YOU! You can still redeem yourself by showing up to the championship bout on Sunday, October 21st. Mark your calendars now. You do not wanna miss it!
Practice is going well, and I'm noticing my endurance picking up finally. I wish I could say the same for my muscles this past week. I ambitiously went to a spinning class last Thursday morning, and I'm still feeling the pain today if you can believe it. I really overdid it, and I could barely walk on Saturday. And after last night's speed skate class, I just hope I can make it through derby practice tomorrow night. I went and jogged this morning at the gym and felt okay, so hopefully it won't be so bad tomorrow.
In other news, my apartment is being taken over by bugs. Tiny ants have moved into my kitchen, and somehow fleas have taken up residence on Elvis. He's an indoor kitty, so I don't know where the fleas came from, but I'm guessing the neighbor's cat let them in. Poor Elvis. He's all itchy and scratchy and pissed off. I gave him some meds yesterday, so all should be better soon. I haven't been spending much time at home lately, and I'm feeling guilty for not being there for Elvis. I'm a bad kitty mama. Tonight we will have some quality kitty time playing fetch with his little mice. He will be so happy.
By the way, tonight is the Central Houston Knitting Circle at Te House of Tea. Hope you can join us!
